Elon Musk At #StartupTips

Tesla All wheel drive

When Technology meets Design meets Business

Why should you watch this 20 minutes video?

It’s a short interview with a great entrepreneur. Elon Musk is part of the PayPal Mafia, but that is another story, that will touch on in the future. He started to be famous as the co-founder of PayPal and served as the company’s CEO. After they were sold to eBay, he was a bit busy, starting three amazing companies that are inventing and disrupting their industries – big time.

  • Solar City – A company that changing the energy sector in focusing on home energy. You can generate your own clean energy instead of paying for traditional electricity. Solar power can actually cost less than you pay now with low, locked-in rates. The savings can add up and the best part is that, there’s no upfront cost, you only need a good roof because solar panel installation is included at no additional cost. One of the best parts is that once you install it – the solar panel could run for many years (Elon claims a century in the interview).
  • SpaceX – Elon Musk started SpaceX with the vision to reuse rockets and bring the cost at 100X. It’s another crazy idea that was very close to being a failure story. Elon is the founder and chief designer for SpaceX, overseeing the development of rockets and spacecraft for missions to Earth orbit and ultimately to other planets. In 2012, SpaceX became the first commercial company to dock with the International Space Station and return cargo to Earth with the Dragon. A month ago (18/1/2015) that had a crash of their rocket. I hope they will fix it soon and we could see this dream comes true.
  • Tesla – A company that could be considered as the ‘Apple of cars’. You need to drive one in order to appreciate the magic that Tesla created. Elon has overseen product development and design from the beginning, including the all-electric Tesla Roadster, Model S and Model X, and overseeing the rollout of Supercharger stations to keep the cars juiced up. Some of the charging stations use solar energy systems from SolarCity. Transitioning to a sustainable energy economy, in which electric vehicles play a pivotal role, has been one of his central interests for almost two decades. He is executing very well against this powerful idea and it’s nice to see his success.
